Icaraizinho is on the Downwind Route.

Ceará and Piauí are privileged to have a virtually perfect seasonal wind regularity, and for this reason, they are home to the best kitesurfing in the world. Their coastlines offer not only paradisiacal landscapes but also diverse water conditions, from waves to perfect flats.

Downwinds are possible anywhere along the coast of Ceará, Piauí, and Maranhão. Some downwinds may have large stretches without waves, including flat areas, but wave-based activities are the most sought after.

Each program is designed considering the tides, moon phase, time of year, level, and purpose of each group, in order to provide the best possible experience for both fun and development.

Questions about downwinds

Get your questions about kitesurfing answered in Icaraizinho.

  • I'm traveling alone, how can I participate?

We advise against ever going downwind alone or without someone who knows the area well. Contact the main local kitesurfing clubs and ask for information. They regularly organize groups to share transportation, making it safer as you'll be in a group.

  • What is the ideal kite size?

Generally, during peak season, a kite between sizes 7 and 9 is sufficient for a person weighing 70 kg most of the time. Some schools rent equipment, which can be a great option as they have other size options available.

It's possible to do downwind trips to nearby spots and return the same day to sleep in Icaraí, Moitas, or Caetanos. We recommend this as it's more comfortable, avoiding packing and unpacking, daily check-in and check-out, etc.
