"Under the moonlight, by the sea, new ways to explore the flavors of the west coast in Amontada"

News report from Diário do Nordeste

Caetanos Beach and the Lençóis Caetanenses, also known as Lençóis Cearenses. A typical fishing village.

Caetanos Beach is one of the three beaches in the municipality of Amontada in Ceará. The village is divided into Lower Caetanos and Upper Caetanos.

The place promotes community-based tourism and attracts people who stay in fishermen's homes and integrate into the cultural life of the region.

In this small stretch of the western coast of Ceará, we find about 15 km of deserted beaches, with warm waters and the traditional constant wind, ideal for practitioners of extreme sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing.

The tranquility, simplicity, and hospitality of the residents make you feel at home.

Sit down at a beachside tent; someone from the owner's family will likely greet you and make you feel comfortable.

This characteristic of the Northeast is something difficult to explain; it acts as a final varnish that further enhances your trip.

Among the three beaches in the municipality of Amontada, this one still preserves the peaceful life of a fishing village the most, and even offers typical local experiences for tourists, including community-based tourism options with family-run accommodations.

There are daily tours departing from Icaraí de Amontada to Caetanos and the famous Lençóis Cearenses, which are lagoons formed by rainwater amidst the dunes. A spectacle of nature, there are several lagoons that form, and you choose your favorite.

Note that the lagoons form shortly after the rainy season, so it's a good idea to check if they are still full when you visit. Sabiaguaba Lagoon is one that remains full year-round and is worth a visit and a swim.

In Caetanos, you'll need to discover and savor the fish and seafood, prepared in a rustic style. The only refinement lies in the simplicity, freshness, and flavor of the native cuisine you can find in the region.

Caetanos is a region you can explore for a whole day, stopping for lunch and waiting to watch the sunset over the dunes.

Caetanos is the beach in Amontada where community-based tourism is most prevalent.

"Community-based tourism is that which local communities have total control over, allowing them to plan, execute, and directly benefit from it." Therefore, the Tucum Network defines principles for tourism activity, such as valuing traditional cultures, respecting nature, ethics, a solidarity economy, respect between generations and between the community and visitors, and collaboration between tourism groups within the Network and other partners.

Information about Caetanos

Here are some useful tips for your stay in Caetanos, Ceará.
  • What is the peak season?

From July to January we have a high season period, and the low season runs from February to June, except for holidays. The windy season can be earlier or later depending on the year, whether there was rain or not, but July to December is the most common windy period, when we have many visitors practicing wind-based water sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing. This is the reason why we have such a long high season.

  • Is there a bank or ATM?

No. In Icaraí de Amontada, which is about 25km away (by road) or 12km away (by beach), you will find an option to withdraw money during business hours.

  • What restaurant options are available?

There are few restaurant options; most of the stalls are family-run and don't have fixed opening hours, with everything prepared fresh. Pousada Palm Beach is the only inn with a restaurant and more comfortable facilities for families.

  • How many days should I stay in the region?

This is very subjective, but we consider 3 days a minimum to see the main attractions, such as visiting Moitas and Icaraí, as well as Caetanos beach. If you enjoy nature and extreme sports, you will need more days or you will give us the pleasure of seeing you on another occasion.

  • Do I need a car to explore the region?

Yes, it is highly recommended to come by car, as access is difficult and the tourist bus does not go to Caetanos Beach.

  • Will the tours pick me up at the inn?

Yes, check with your accommodation. The tours listed on this website depart from the Icaraí de Amontada district, so if you are in Caetanos, you will need to let them know when booking the tour. We suggest contacting a licensed transportation provider run by a resident of Caetanos.

  • Does it have a pharmacy and a hospital?

No. Our health center is quite limited, and cases are usually taken to the municipal headquarters, 50 km away, in the cities of Itapipoca, Sobral, or Fortaleza. Special medications must be brought, as local pharmacies may not be able to provide them.
